Individual Note: " Nicholas Knapp Genealogy" says Joshua moved to Stamford, CT. with his
father in 1646. "ye Historie of Ye Town of Greenwich" syays he was born 5 Nov
1634. However, "the Life and Work of Seaman A. Knapp" gives the date as 1 Jan
1635.
MARRIED: Hannah Close, 9 jun 1657, Stamford, CT.
Jousha Knapp moved to Stamford, Connecticut with his father in 1646 and
married there and lived there for sometime. In 1663, he moved to Greenwich,
COnnecticut where he was admitted Freeman in 1669, making his home there until
his deathin 1684. He was one of two persons who made the bargins with the
Indians when Bedford Parish was bought from them. The agreement between the
Indians and the Stamford Colony was witnessed by Joshua Knapp and David
Waterbury and signed by seven Indian Chiefs and was dated 23 Dec 1680. He
bought land in Rye in 1681. His inventory is dated 27 Oct 1684 and is spoken
of as a good estate. He mentions his children, saying that the sons will
receive their share at age 21 and the daughters at the age of 18. The will is
signed by the widow Knapp, John Bowers and Moses Knapp, all of Stamford,
Connecticut and also by John Reynolds. Joshua was made Proprietor at
Greenwich 5 Feb 1664. He gave a deed in Stamford 14 Jan 1657. He was
probably a weaver by trade and his father willed him " the other half of the
gears" to his loom. Inventory of his estate in 1684 places its value at 54
pounds. He was one of the Committee of sixteen to confer about the dividing
line between Greenwich and Rye.
