Hon. Matthew Allyn, son of Richard, will proved 1652, married Margaret (). He came from England to Charlestown, Mass. 1632; freeman at Cambridge1635; settled at Hartford, Conn., 1637, later at Windsor, Conn. He was arepresentative to the Massachusetts General Court in 1636, deputy fromWindsor, Conn., 1648 and 1657, assistant 1658-67, commissioner to theUnited Colonies from 1660-64. In 1627 he married Margaret Wyatt, fromEngland of royal descent.

pp. 227-8 Matthew Allyn, Cambridge, 1632, came from Brampton, Devonshire,England. Freeman 4 Mar 1635, rep to Gen Ct. 1636. He moved probably nextyear to Hartford, where he was an original proprietor. He owned 110acres. He was excommunicated by the church in Hartford, and June 3, 1644,he appealed to the General Court for redress. The records do not show howthe affair was settled, but it may have been one cause of his removal toWindsor. Nevertheless few men in the colony had more influence, orreceived more honors from the people that Mr. Allyn. He was deputy fromWindsor 1648-1657, Assistant 1658-1667, commissioner for the UnitedColonies 1660 and 1664. He died 1 Feb 1671.

Matthew Allyn - Cambridge 1632, was perhaps son of Samuel of Chelmsford,Essex, Eng. Freeman 4 Mar 1635, rep. at March Gen. Ct. 1636, rem. prob.next yr. to Hartford, thence in few yrs. to Windsor. Rep 1648-57,Commissr. for Unit. Col. 1660 and 1664. His autograph has "y" but hisname appears with "e" as well.

Matthew Allyn came from Braunton, Devonshire, England to Cambridge in1633 and from thence to Hartford, CT in 1636 and to Windsor, CT in 1648.He was a well-to-do merchant with property in England and New England. Hehad three children: Mary, John and Thomas. His wife was the formerMargaret Wyot of Braunton, Devonshire, England and she outlived him byfive years, dying in 1675.
