Aaron came to America on the ship "Mary and John" in 1630 w ith his stepfather's family (Thomas Ford). They settled i n the area in south Bostonnow called Dorchester. After sev eral years a dispute over representationwith the Massachus etts Bay Colony government lead to the removal of manyto t he Hartford, Connecticut area. Among these was Aaron who mo ved toWindsor and helped found the town in 1636. The nex t year, he married hisstep sister Mary Ford who was the da ughter of Thomas Ford and his firstwife Joan Waye. he wa s a member of the Windsor troop of horse and aMajor of th e Hartford troop in 1658. In 1661, another dispute broke ou tover representation in government and the role of the chu rch. Aaronleft with many of the original Mary and John se ttlers to found the townof Westfield, Connecticut. He wa s a proprietor at Westfield in 1667,ensign in 1676, and Ca ptain of the Westfield garrison during KingPhillip's War . Aaron moved north again to the town of Hadley, Massachusetts. It is generally assumed that Aaron also had a son b y a first wifein England. This would be the Nathaniel Cook e who sailed with him on theMary and John. Nathaniel is th e ancestor of Helen Cook. Thus, Aaronwould be a common anc estor to both Helen and Robert Cook.
